Steam turbine designations: what ПТ-25-90/10, Т-100/120-130 and К-50 mean
The turbine designation is the first thing a spare parts supplier asks for. It tells you the type of machine, its power and the steam conditions it is designed for. Here is how to read it.
Letters: turbine type
The letters at the start of the designation show how the turbine delivers steam to consumers:
| Letters | Turbine type |
|---|---|
| К (K) | condensing — all exhaust steam goes to the condenser |
| Т (T) | with a heating extraction — for district heating and hot water |
| П (P) | with a process extraction — for the plant’s process needs |
| ПТ (PT) | with process and heating extractions |
| Р (R) | back-pressure — all exhaust steam goes to the consumer |
| ПР (PR) | with a process extraction and back pressure |
Numbers: power and steam pressure
The letters are followed by numbers separated by hyphens:
- the first number is the rated electrical output, MW;
- the second number is the initial steam pressure upstream of the turbine, kgf/cm²;
- the number after the slash is the steam pressure in the extraction or at the exhaust, kgf/cm².
If the power has two numbers separated by a slash, the first is the rated output and the second the maximum output.
Examples
- ПТ-25-90/10 — a turbine with process and heating extractions, 25 MW, initial steam pressure 90 kgf/cm², process extraction pressure 10 kgf/cm².
- Т-100/120-130 — a heating turbine: rated output 100 MW, maximum 120 MW, initial pressure 130 kgf/cm².
- Р-12-35 — a 12 MW back-pressure turbine for 35 kgf/cm² steam.
- К-50 — a 50 MW condensing turbine.
Older designations
Many turbines still running at CHP plants and industrial sites were built before a unified designation system appeared. Their models — АКВ-18, ВК-50, АП-25, ВПТ-25, СВР-50 — were named by each plant in its own way, and the same letters may mean different things at different plants. The number in such models usually also shows the power in MW.
So when ordering parts for an older turbine, give the manufacturer and, if possible, the machine serial number along with the model. For example, in our catalog parts for АКВ and ВКВ turbines are listed under the Nevsky Plant (NZL), and parts for ВПТ-25 and ВК-50 under the Leningrad Metal Works (LMZ).
What to send along with the model
The turbine model narrows the search, but only the drawing number identifies a part unambiguously. How to find it, and what to do if there is no number, is explained in How to find a turbine spare part by its drawing number.
The list of models we supply parts for is in the Equipment section.
